Who we are

Mark L

While I qualified with a Bachelor’s degree in science and always ate relatively well, it was only in recent years where I have taken a real interest in improving my day to day lifestyle and the science behind it.

I wasn’t happy with some daily aspects of my life and decided I wanted to improve some small things. I took the initial steps in making some daily changes which have resulted in a huge difference, and I continue to work towards where I want to be.

Coming from a professional office based background; I understand what it can be like in a hectic world so I will be focusing on the benefits of certain foods, fitness, exercise and other small things you can do to help boost your performance in your day job.

I hope you get a benefit from the information I talk about on this website and use it to grow towards the best version of who you can be.

My name is David and it is my wish and life’s purpose to inspire and guide others with the knowledge I received and joyfully adopted into my own lifestyle.

I’ve been blessed to experience the miracles and life changing gifts of the positive approach to life that inspired me to live a health conscious lifestyle and to continue becoming my best version, following my dreams and enjoying every step of the process.

I am passionate about self-empowerment, mindfulness and awareness, always challenging myself and craving for more clarity. I’ve been engaged in various holistic healing practices, purifying the connection between the body, mind and the soul, exploring the spiritual aspect of the human consciousness. It has expanded my understanding of life and the laws of this universe enormously and enabled me achieve the clarity with which I see the beauty and positivity of the current shift in the collective consciousness, making me very excited for what awaits ahead.

I’m inspired by all the bright people, dedicated to the well being of our humanity like Alan Watts, love for nature and the guidance of my own heart.

As a father of two beautiful healthy daughters a big part of my lifestyle rotates around proper nourishment of our bodies – taking care of and treating it with the healthiest food as it was Your Temple.

I hope you will enjoy this journey together, bringing us all closer to the Bright Future Ahead!

Much Love,

Karen L

Hi, I’m Karen, Irish born and raised but currently living in California. I’m a dietitian, doctor (PhD) of prenatal nutrition, yogi, and an all-round health and wellness advocate. One of my biggest passions is helping myself and others to find better physical health, inner balance and a general sense of wellbeing in life – on a daily basis and in the longer term.

I have always had an interest in the role of good food for maintaining health thanks to my mother’s home-cooking growing-up. But tendencies toward perfectionism, anxiety and stress throughout my adolescence and early 20’s led to the development of downstream minor health problems, which are unfortunately so common today. This motivated me to pursue my undergraduate studies in Human Nutrition and Dietetics at Trinity College Dublin. But despite years of academic studies, it was through my own personal research, self-experimentation, search for scientific understanding, while also having an open-mindedness to alternative practices that has advanced my own pursuit toward inner balance and wellness.

I used to think eating healthy and exercising was the be-all and end-all of maintaining good health. But now I see that this message is over-simplified and tends to place blame on the individual for being overweight/sick/depressed etc. The reality is that our societies and cultures today have a greater influence on our health than we would could ever imagine. I truly believe that we must re-gain an awareness of our own physical bodies and thought patterns. We can then build on that foundation of awareness to develop sustainable, personalized, healthy lifestyle choices that offer positive results for health and happiness.

I spend my professional work hours developing and implementing research studies to scientifically test how nutrition interacts with psychology and behaviours to influence health outcomes, particularly in women and children. I then spend much of my personal time exploring those same concepts on myself. Yoga has been an enormous part of my personal growth over the years and I constantly apply yogic philosophies and practices to all aspects of my daily life to enhance wellbeing on a physical, mental and spiritual level.

I am continuously learning – in my professional career as an academic researcher, on and off my yoga mat, with every book I read and podcast I listen to, and in my daily interactions with the many wonderful, intelligent, intuitive and passionate people that have come into my life.

I feel energized every time I share health, nutrition, and general lifestyle advice with my family and friends. BeBetter.ie is finally a platform to allow me to share my personal health advice, scientific knowledge and wisdom with you!

Namaste,
Karen

Christina D

Hello! I’m Christina. I’m a musician, teacher, and health and wellness advocate who grew up in Ireland, but am currently living in New York.

My interest in health and wellness began when I was a teenager who was diagnosed with Raynaud’s disease (basically, my extremities are always cold). I was prescribed a medication that is usually given to middle-aged people with heart disease. My mom wasn’t really into this idea. Instead, she suggested I help my circulation by eating lots of garlic and ginger, and taking up running. From then on, I loved nerding about how food could be used as medicine, and was drawn to study Human Nutrition and Dietetics at Trinity College Dublin.

In 2016, after performing and travelling for a few years, I moved to NYC. After about 6 months of eating out every day, working nights, and getting caught up in the busy lifestyle of the city, a lot of minor health issues and allergies started to flare up for me. It was time to reset to a  healthier, more sustainable lifestyle again, like I did when I was younger. So I stopped working nights, cooked more, and started to work on a rooftop farm where I learned about the importance of eating local produce, avoiding industrially farmed products, and making a difference by voting with your dollars (or euros).

Now I live in upstate New York, a five minute walk from an organic farm and a five minute bike ride from a small town. When I’m not teaching or performing, you can usually find me out for a run, on a hike or experimenting in the kitchen. I’m still learning what food and lifestyle choices help me to feel best and have been documenting my journey on my food blog, Teeny Green Kitchen.

So far, my food philosophy boils down to enjoying more whole foods and veggies, eating less industrially processed stuff, and supporting local farmers/businesses who are doing good things. I believe we could all make a difference to our health and environments by being more mindful about where our food has come from. By choosing to support local, ethical food businesses over industrial corporations, we can do a little bit of good for our minds, bodies, communities, and for the planet. We’re all connected!
